Acer Unveils Nitro V 16: The World’s First Gaming Laptop with AMD Ryzen 8040 Processors
Acer made headlines on Thursday by announcing the world’s first gaming laptop equipped with AMD’s highly anticipated next-generation processors. The Nitro V 16, set for release in the first half of 2024, was unveiled to showcase the company’s commitment to delivering cutting-edge, high-performance gaming technology.

One of the standout features of the Nitro V 16 is its impressive 16-inch screen, which offers two resolution options: 1,920 x 1,200 pixels or 2,560 x 1,600 pixels in a 16:10 aspect ratio. With refresh rates of up to 165 Hz, the Nitro V 16 promises a visually stunning gaming experience.
To ensure optimal performance, Acer has incorporated innovative cooling technology into the laptop’s design. Vents located behind the screen panel maximize airflow, helping to keep internal components cool. The Nitro V 16 also boasts a dual-fan system, which further enhances its ability to maintain hardware temperature at an optimal level.
In terms of design, rumors suggest that the Nitro V 16 will feature a colored backlit keyboard, adding a vibrant touch to the gaming experience. While Acer has yet to confirm whether the keyboard lights will be RGB compatible, the possibility has piqued the interest of gamers. Additionally, the laptop will come equipped with a variety of connectivity options, including one HDMI port, two USB 3 ports, one USB-C 4 port, and compatibility with Wi-Fi 6E networks.
In line with Acer’s commitment to environmental sustainability and conscious technology, the Nitro V 16 incorporates carbon neutralization on a cellular level. This is part of Acer’s larger initiative known as “Tecnologia Consciente,” which seeks to minimize the environmental impact of its products.
The Nitro V 16 will be powered by AMD’s latest Ryzen 8040 processors, which integrate Zen 4 and native AI capabilities specifically designed for laptops. According to Acer, the laptop will be available in versions featuring the Ryzen 7 8845HS, a highly powerful CPU configuration. This processor boasts eight cores and 16 threads, with a clock speed that can reach up to 5.1 GHz. The thermal design power (TDP) of the processor is up to 54 W, making it capable of handling demanding gaming tasks. Its 4 nm footprint, manufactured by TSMC, ensures efficiency and performance.
The numbering of the Ryzen 7 8845HS suggests a new architecture, but it is worth noting that the number “8” denotes the launch year, which is 2024 in this case. Contrary to Intel’s criticisms, AMD explains that the Ryzen 7 8845HS is based on the same Zen 4 architecture as the Ryzen 7 7845HS, assuring consumers of compatibility and continuity.
Artificial intelligence (AI) performance is a key differentiator between generations, and the Ryzen 7 8845HS excels in this aspect. With an NPU based on the XDNA architecture, the processor offers up to 60% more AI performance compared to the previous Ryzen 7040 line. This enhanced performance is particularly beneficial for AI camera functions such as noise reduction and image optimization.
In terms of graphics, the Nitro V 16 will be equipped with NVIDIA graphics cards, including versions with up to 8 GB of dedicated memory, such as the GeForce RTX 4060. This, combined with the integrated GPU in the Ryzen processors, ensures smooth and immersive gaming experiences. The laptop is also equipped with up to 32 GB of DDR5-5600 RAM and storage configurations of up to 2 TB in 4th generation PCIe SSDs, allowing gamers to store and access their favorite titles and files seamlessly.
As for accessibility and pricing, the Acer Nitro V 16 is set to hit the US market in March 2024, followed by its availability in European and Middle Eastern markets in April of the same year. The suggested starting price for the gaming laptop in the US market is $999, approximately 4,900 Brazilian reais. While there are currently no plans for a launch in Brazil, gaming enthusiasts worldwide eagerly await the opportunity to experience the Nitro V 16 and its groundbreaking features.
